Sunday, July 6: Enroute to Caldwell, ID

I got a late start leaving for Caldwell from my home base (Paine Field in Everett, WA) after a few delays at home, then waiting for the fuel truck, and finally waiting for a 727 doing touch-and-goes! Once, enroute, however, I made good time with a light tail wind and arrived in Caldwell after just under 3 hours.

The last 20 minutes of the flight were more interesting as I had a sudden rough engine about 40 miles from Caldwell. It cleared up after about 5 minutes, and I made it in to Caldwell without further incident. On the ground, I also noticed an oil leak, so Clyde Fancher and I are going to do a little trouble-shooting tomorrow.

This evening at the convention we were treated to a formation flight demonstration by the Fraser Blues ( the team, another shot of the planes). It was a very nice show and we all really enjoyed seeing them perform (from our shady perch!). Several of us got some good video of their flight so perhaps those who couldn't make it can still see a little of the show sometime.

After the Fraser Blues demontration, we gathered at 6:00pm at the hotel for the welcome reception. I don't have a count of how many Navions are here yet, but it seems like a good crowd and I heard that we ran out of tie down spaces on the ramp and may have to start parking planes in the grass! I think this is going to be another good convention!

P.S. Ron did not come with me to the show this time as we have two new puppies at home that are not quite ready to be left with our normal dog sitter. Maybe by this fall they will not be such a handfull and we can take another flying trip.
