Thursday, July 11: Efficiency Race, Sturgis, and the Fish Fry.

Efficiency Race: I rode safety pilot in Deboreh Black's Navion this morning (an all women team) and we won! (actually I don't know who won, but we might have won, it could happen). About half the route was on top (well, a few went under) a solid overcast layer, making pilotage a little tough, but no one got lost. Just after the race, a local TV crew showed up to film the Navions and interviewed Deboreh and Gary Rankin, and one news person even went up for a ride with Jerome. The Navion Society should have copies of the newscast for people to look at, later.

Sturgis: We took a little break today and flew over to Sturgis, which is just a few minutes away from Spearfish. It's a nice runway, but the airport is a good five miles from town, so there's isn't much there. We took a picture of the plane with Bear Butte Mountain in the background just to prove we were at Sturgis.

Fish Fry: We all met at a park in Spearfish near a trout hatchery and had some very tasty fried trout and ice cream. We toured the hatchery, also. I'm no expert on trout, but I can definitely say they had the biggest trout I have ever seen.

Most graceful maneuver witnessed at the airport today: Just kidding, I didn't hurt myself today. :-)
